Finally! A Good-Looking Travel Tote With One Crucial Feature
  + stars: | 2023-11-21 | by ( Sarah Khan | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
For the Baggage Claim series, seasoned travelers unpack their devotion to a favorite piece of luggage or travel accessory. IN MY QUEST for a chic, travel-friendly tote, I found countless options, all clearly competing to thwart me: too stiff, too small, too big, too boring. I wasn’t averse to spending, but gorgeous pieces from YSL and Loewe all disqualified themselves by inexplicably lacking…a zipper. Only these dowdy numbers, it seemed, would keep my prized positions from spilling out onto the floor of some distant airport terminal. Endless, unsatisfying scrolling finally paid off, leading me to Cuyana’s affordable, sealable Small Easy Zipper Tote, so I popped into the brand’s New York store and bought one in a cheery coral shade.

Nicknamed "Pirola" on social media, the BA.2.86 Omicron subvariant is being tracked by both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As of Aug. 30, CDC said the BA.2.86 variant was detected in at least four U.S. states in people or wastewater. Delaware on Tuesday said it had detected a BA.2.86 infection at a hospital. Moderna on Wednesday said clinical data showed that its retooled COVID vaccine generated a nearly 9-fold increase in human antibodies that can neutralize BA.2.86. Pfizer said on Wednesday that its updated COVID shot showed neutralizing activity against BA.2.86 and EG.5 in studies conducted on mice.

The priest, Jean-Daniel Lafontant, had come from Haiti to help reopen the House of World Cultures, Berlin’s distinguished but dowdy center for non-European arts and ideas. The House — or H.K.W., as everyone calls it, using its German initials — is an unwieldy beast, an anachronism with promise. (The building was an American gift to West Berlin during the Cold War.) Founded in 1989 at the dawn of multiculturalism, and just months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, H.K.W. has yawed between programs that highlight foreignness — for instance one-country exhibitions, or “world” music and films — and more complex fare.

The jiggly snack’s logo and packaging are getting a whole new look, their first in a decade, as owner Kraft Heinz looks to revitalize the dowdy brand. Jell-O's current look on the left and new look, on the right. The “O” in the Jell-O logo is getting a bolder look because it’s an “ownable, playful aspect” of the brand. Jell-O sales fell 19% from 2009 to 2013 to $753 million, the Associated Press reported at the time. Last year, the company teased that it was giving the brand a refresh look and increasing its advertisement spend.

This One-Piece Is the ‘Mom’ Swimsuit of My Dreams

At my sister’s prompting, I tried a suit from Boden, but the fit was off. Unlike a lot of one-piece swimsuits I’ve worn, I never find myself tugging down the bottom or pulling up the straps. The Tulum suit also kept its elasticity and shape for far longer than my old bathing suits. I’m not the only one who loves The Tulum: I’ve received many compliments from other moms who I imagine admire not just the suit, but my obvious comfort in it. Its popularity is also reflected by the fact that I’ve noticed that The Tulum often sells out during peak swimsuit season.

The United States this week also expanded its voluntary genomic sequencing program at airports, adding Seattle and Los Angeles to the program. "Previous COVID-19 wastewater surveillance has shown to be a valuable tool and airplane wastewater surveillance could potentially be an option," she wrote. French researchers reported in July that airplane wastewater tests showed requiring negative COVID tests before international flights does not protect countries from the spread of new variants. They found the Omicron variant in wastewater from two commercial airplanes that flew from Ethiopia to France in December 2021 even though passengers had been required to take COVID tests before boarding. Osterholm and others said mandatory testing before travel to the United States is unlikely to keep new variants out of the country.

Netflix's first Director of Product Accessibility, Heather Dowdy, told Insider what drives her. Growing up with deaf parents, she was aware of gaps in subtitles and when they "messed up." Having deaf parents meant she was constantly aware of mistakes and gaps in subtitles, she said. But TV subtitles are now used far more widely than by people who are deaf or hard of hearing. 'Feedback is crucial'Dowdy said people who are hard of hearing or deaf aren't included enough in the process of making subtitles.
